This short tutorial is
an introductory guide to the different steps that allow you to paint miniature
figurines. Do not limit yourself to this simple example and feel free to
experiment. Practice will give you better brush control and, as with all other activities
you may like, your dexterity will increase over time.
After removing the
mold line from your model, glue all parts together if required. When the glue
is set, clean your model with fresh water and soap. Use an old tooth brush to
reach small corners. Make sure your model is completely dry before applying a thin
layer of primer.
Apply the base color
on every surface.
Apply a wash. On this example,
I first applied a green ink wash on the skin only.
I then applied a brown
ink wash all over the model.
Finally, dry brush the
highlights and paint the detail. It's also nice to add details on the base such
as sand, gravel, synthetic grass or bushes.
Note: The model I painted for this tutorial is a Wizards of the Coast 88361 Ogre Trooper produced for there now discontinued Chainmail skirmish game.
